The Lady Killers were on the lookout for a new midfielder in the January transfer window, and their interest in former West Ham United winger, Valon Behrami, was widely publicised.
However, after being turned down by the Fiorentina midfielder, they turned their attentions to Atalanta playmaker, Simone Padoin, eventually acquiring his services.
Speaking to the press about the interest from Juve, the 26-year old was candid in his reply, saying that the Viola were committed in keeping his service and stated that:
"It wasn’t an easy time for me as the side were struggling. The club, however, made me feel important.”
The midfielder also emphasised the importance of clubs reaching out to their players and making their importance known to them.
“Things like that make you more attached to the cause that you are already fighting for. It was the latest demonstration from the club and myself that we are doing something important in Florence.” added the Swiss international
The Florence side has been consistently improving after a less than convincing start to the season, in part, due to the arrival of manager, Delio Rossi. They have been clinical in front of the goal, highlighted by their recent
victory against Udinese.
Fiorentina defeated Udinese 3-2 at Stadio Artemio Franchi on Sunday, February 5. Striker Stevan Jovetic has been a catalyst in their recent surge, as the Montenegrin scored a brace against the Bianconeri, and took his tally to
12 goals for the season.
Behrami is full of admiration for the former Partizan striker, and has labelled him as world class.
“Jovetic is a great player. He’s been great since his return after missing all of last season with injury. He can already be defined as world class.”
Jovetic joined La Viola from Partizan in 2008, and has scored 25 goals in 75 matches so far. The 22-year-old has attracted interest from host of European clubs, and Fiorentina will brace themselves for bids in the summer transfer
window.
