Valtteri Bottas aiming to improve his driving in 2013 F1 season – Formula 1 news
Valtteri Bottas, who has been signed on by Williams F1 to replace Bruno Senna, says that his objective for 2013 is to improve his driving with each race.
“It's difficult to set objectives before the season starts, so I'm just trying to make the most of this opportunity to prove the team has been right to promote me to a race seat,” he told. “I want to look back on 2013 and feel that I've improved as a driver
and helped the team improve its performance on the track. As a team I think we should be aiming to score more points than this year and really get the most out of the car.”
He said that he was looking forward to learn and develop as a driver in the coming season. The driver stated that his aim is to score reasonable points for Williams.
While this will be Bottas’ debut as an official driver for the team, he had been in contract with the team as a test driver during the 2012 season. He was allowed to drive Senna’s car for fifteen Friday practice sessions. Bottas said that having done the
testing with the team will help him during the next season as he is now familiar with most of the tracks. He told that he will still be required to do hard work but it helps to have some knowledge beforehand.
Toto Wolff, who is the executive director for Williams F1, says that he has his complete trust in Bottas that he can take the pressure of being a full time driver. However, he does not expect him to spend all his time in getting used to it but rather expects
him start scoring points for the team. He added that the driver has been a good investment in the team and hopes he will work well with and learn from his teammate Pastor Maldonado.
Williams F1 won only one Grand Prix this past season in Spain with the help of Maldonado. This was the first victory for the team since 2004 and they finished seventh on the constructors’ grid.
