Valtteri Bottas confident ahead of making his F1 debut – Formula 1 news
Valtteri Bottas, who will be driving for Williams F1in the 2013 F1 season, has stated that he wants to be successful in 2013 and is confident about it.
“Being successful in the future, that is my goal as well and I'm in F1 now because I really want to compete against the best in the world,” said Bottas. “I want to do well and one day I want to be the world champion, but next year it's all about learning,
getting up to speed as quickly as possible, minimising mistakes and bringing home points. I know, and the team knows, once I get to drive more, with mileage and experience, then I can do some good things.”
Bottas will be replacing Bruno Senna and was also in contract with the team to drive for fifteen practice sessions throughout the 2012 F1 season in place of Senna. The Finnish driver has been the reserve driver for the team. He will now represent the team
in 2013 with teammate Pastor Maldonado who has been retained by the team.
In an earlier interview, he had stated that his main objective for his debut season is to improve his driving and also prove to the team that they were right in their decision to promote him to the race seat. He said he wants to look back at his debut season
and know that he has progressed as a driver and also helped the team improve their performance.
He is also very positive about working Maldonado who won the team’s first race since the 2004 F1 season by winning the 2012 Spanish GP. He said that they get along well with each other and that he expects to learn a lot more from his greater experience.
Williams’ team boss, Frank Williams, had described him as the most talented driver he has ever come across. Bottas is also the winner of the 2011 GP3 Series.
The team itself has also improved with the 2012 F1 season as they changed their engine power to Renault. They finished the season with eighth position in the constructors’ championship which is a step up from their ninth place from 2011.
