Valtteri Bottas says young drivers need more experience to join F1 – Formula 1 news
Williams’ test driver, Valtteri Bottas has said that the young drivers need to get more experience before they join Formula 1.
Bottas has impressed everyone with his amazing pace in the Young Driver Test and has replaced Bruno Senna of the Grove based team in many free practice sessions in the season so far. Moreover, he has been seen as a potential replacement of the Brazilian
driver in the coming year because of his incredible driving skills.
The Finn said that it is very important for the youngsters to gain more experience before they graduate to the higher level of the sport because only then they will be able to maximise their potential.
Furthermore, he insisted that FIA should also provide the necessary chances to the young drivers so as to develop them as competent F1 drivers in the future.
“I think so,” he said. “That's my opinion, because it is obviously really, really difficult nowadays for young drivers to come up and we don't need to go so much further back, only a few years ago, there was a lot of testing and younger drivers could get
much more mileage.”
In addition, he said that it is very important for the sport to introduce more and more young driver tests in order to provide the essential opportunities for the new comers to show their talent.
“Then the teams could really see which drivers were good. It's a shame nowadays that it is like this, and now it is the same for everyone who is at my age,” he added. “Maybe one example would be to introduce more young driver tests.”
It will be important to mention that the British squad has not finalised their next year’s driver line-up and their executive director, Toto Wolff has said that they are presently evaluating their options. In addition, he said that they may replace Senna
or his teammate, Pastor Maldonado in the coming year with Bottas who has shown some remarkable performances in many free practice sessions until now.
Let’s see whether the Finnish driver will be able to secure a race seat in Williams in the next season or not.
