Valtteri Bottas tops the timesheets on the second day of Young Driver Test – Formula 1 news
Williams’ test driver Valtteri Bottas has topped the timesheets on the second day of Young Driver Test held at Silverstone Circuit.
Bottas set the fastest time of 48.963 seconds and remained ahead of Marussia pair of reserve drivers, Max Chilton and Rio Haryanto. Moreover, he said that he is delighted with his run during the test day.
In addition, he said that he felt very comfortable behind the wheel of his car FW34 while he said that he was able to get a sound understanding about the Pirelli tyre compound and the overall team operations.
“It was another successful day today for team, with trouble-free performance and no problems with car,” he said. “It was useful to get some longer runs in again today and it was good to get better understanding of tyres, and how team works.”
Furthermore, he said that the weather conditions remain in their favour during the test and they were able to get some valuable information about the car which will definitely help in making the necessary evaluation about the updates to make the further
advancements.
“We were lucky with weather today considering forecast, as we were able to do most of runs in dry, despite bit of dampness early on,” he said.
It will be important to mention that before the test, the chief operations engineer of Williams, Mark Gillan expressed that they were eagerly looking forward to make the essential assessment of the Finnish driver to consider him as their future race driver.
“Williams is very fortunate to have young test driver with talent and promise that Valtteri has and basically we want to put him through his paces over two day event,” said Gillan.
At present, the British team is standing at 7th place in the constructors’ championship with 47 points. Besides, they are ahead of Force India and behind Sauber.
Additionally, they have emerged as a strong midfield contender and have been able to win their first race since 2004, in the current season.
Above and beyond, it will be very interesting to see how the Grove based team performs in the approaching races.
