Value for money? which should i get?

Question

a bottle of good champagne on sale half price at £13 or a bottle of sparkling wine of unknown quality either from italy or chili for £5?

geez, this sounds like a pretty dumb question huh? to me it screams champagne but i kinda feel guilty for paying £13 for something i dont need... hmmm... what to do? thanks =)

Get what you like.

Sometimes you get what you pay for but that isn't always the case.

I found a $5 bottle or Pinot Grigio that puts to shame anything I've tasted in the $20+ range.

There are a couple of potato vodkas that consistently rate higher that brands that cost double.

splash out get the champers darhling!!! especially if it's for a special occasion.

Not sure what your dilemma is if you say you don't need the champagne.  So buy a less expensive sparkling wine - usually taste better anyway in my opinion, and if you like it you will have money left to buy another one!

    Buy the inexpensive Chilean and Italian ones. Remember: "Champagne is from a particular region in France, it doesn't mean it's good or great." Sparkling wines, however, although basically the same as champagne, have met and passed the quality of champagne from France. Some of the Italian, US, German and others, can easily compete. Three bottles of wine ( sparkling ) from these countries ( for 15 lbs. ) may introduce you to some great wines, inexpensive and satisfying. The days of French wines being atomatically better, is over.

These are my thoughts:

If we are talking about the half price champagne currently on offer at Tesco for £13, then I would say that £13 is closer to being the correct price for this product i.e. it would be completely overpriced at £26.  - in other words you would not be making a saving of £13 today, just paying the correct price for this champagne.

So you are left then to weigh up buying a cheap champagne against an Italian sparkling (Prosecco ?) and for me the Prosecco would win, as cheap champagne cannot hold a candle to a good Prosecco. For a halfway option, I would go for a New Zealand sparkling at around about £9 instead
