How much does a house increase in value compared to the average mutual fund or 401k?

  1. It depends on where you buy your home, and its condition, how long you keep it for, etc.   I am personally prejudiced against mutual funds because I'm of the Rich Dad following, and have personally experienced great success investing in real estate.  


  2. Historically stocks have had the best compounded return, but your question is way too vague to get a useful answer.  

    There have been periods of immense growth in both real estate and individual stocks.  There have been periods of immense contraction in both too.  

    What is the real question you are trying to ask?

  3. Over the last 50 years, stocks paid 6 percent

    houses 5 percent

    bonds 4 percent

    Right now the returns on all 3 are way down. /
