Valencia coach, Ernesto Valverde, believes his side’s win over Osasuna on last Saturday will not have any impact on his team’s approach when the two meet again in the Copa del Rey.
Valverde’s men came away with a 1-0 win over Osasuna at the El Sadar stadium. The two teams will face off again tonight for the Copa del Rey last-16.
Los Che boss believes his team’s victory at the El Sadar will mean nothing tonight. He urges his players to be on their best form and approach the game with a winning mentality.
“Victory the other day reinforced us but it means nothing. We will have to run a lot to beat Osasuna and approach the game with the idea of winning.”
The Spanish tactician then turned his attention to his counterpart, Jose Luis Mendilibar. He hailed his character and the fact that he managed to mould Betis into a fiery side.
“He has lots of character and has made Osasuna very strong. They are brave, tightened up, very fast in attack.”
The former Espanyol boss also commented on the complexities of the Copa del Rey competition. He stated that it is an easier cup than the Primera Division, and has also said that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 and Real Madrid have managed to monopolize the trophy recently.
Valencia will encounter Barca or Real in the next round; however, Valverde is not worried about that. He stated that his intention is always to win regardless of who his opponents are.
“When a player takes the field he just thinks about winning. It could be Madrid, Barca, Celta Vigo or Cordoba, but you go into each battle to win.”
Finally, Valverde said that he has not experienced the ‘bad atmosphere’ that was said to exist in the club since the departure of former coach, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mauricio-c24899 Pellegrino. He said that all of those talks were not true and now what his players want to do is to win
games and move up the ladder.
“The feeling I have is that what was said about the club was not true. The players want to move up, to achieve results.”
