Vamo a Galupiar all set for the Santa Barbara Handicap on 21st April, 2012
Vamo a Galupiar, the chestnut filly who is the daughter of Proud Citizen, out of mare, Afirmate Catalina, is in good form after bagging a massive victory in the Santa Ana Stakes.
With this victory, she is likely to enter the $150,000 Santa Barbara Handicap, which is scheduled to take place on 21st April, 2012.
Her trainer Neil Drysdale was confident in her ability to win, but he stated that there is definitely room for more improvement. He said “I think she should improve this summer,” he added. “That’s what I’m hoping for.”
Owned by Robert S. Evans, the five-year-old filly is not to be under-estimated. The trainer also believed that she could tackle any challenge thrown at her, and emerge victorious. Drysdale told the media that “I don’t see the added distance to be any
problem to her.”
The filly who was whelped on 15th September, 2007, downed the Grade 2 Santa Ana Stakes (Fillies & Mares), which took place at Santa Anita Park on 25th
March, 2012.
Vamo a Galupiar used the stretch to her advantage where she took the lead and defeated, Wild Mia, by a narrow margin of ½ a length and won the purse of $150,000.
The Haras Don Alberto bred filly was mounted by jockey, Joel Rosario and the duo maintained their composure throughout the track, and covered the distance of 1 mile and 1 furlong in 1 minute and 48.89 seconds.
The Santa Barbara Handicap will be the longest distance that the young runner will cover, but with her form it looks like she could easily take the opportunity.
Bauble Queen, trained by Eric Kruljac will also compete in the Santa Barbara, despite her ninth place finish in the Santa Ana Stakes.
“She didn’t run her type of race,” the trainer told the press “In the downpour, she never picked up the bit. She was dumbfounded. We’re hoping that’s the deal and she goes back to running the kind of race that she ran on New Year’s Day.”
The Santa Barbara Handicap will be an exciting event for the trainers, jockeys and owners, all of them who will be rooting for their runners.
