Possibly a stupid question, but are vampire squids invertebrates?

  4. Yes, but they have an internal shell called a pen, used for reinforcement of the expanded and heavily muscled mantle cavity. It is only a remnant of the molluscan shell.

  5. All Squids are Mollusks, and all Mollusks are invertebrates.  

    All animals "without" a backbone are considered invertebrates, and these include Mollusks, Arthropods (insects, crabs, etc.), worms, Jellyfish, etc, etc.

    Invertebrates are also those animals that are considered lower on the evolutionary scale from vertebrates,  far below man and the other Mammals, and Birds, Amphibians, and Reptiles.
