Question:

Vampires. Sensible answers on personal knowledge/belief please?

If you're just going to comment on this and tell me vampires aren't real then please don't bother as I already pretty much agree. People who believe they exist/are one I would like to hear your thoughts on abilities, sun sensitivity and wether blood drinking is because they need it, want it or just a story altogether. I know there are completely normal people who have blood-drinking fetishes but they are not what I'm interested in here. Also on becoming vampires. Do they have to be born/ cannot give birth/ have to be bitten/ have to mix blood with a vampire/have to drink vampire blood etc. also how long do they live and how would they 'die'

Please nothing from that awful twilight series or other films/fiction.

I'm interested in people who have met/ believe they are vampires or alternatively anyone with a good grasp of mythological history.

  1. I am a vampire. Stronger senses, stronger(but only when attacking), faster reflexes, and some sensitivity to sunlight. For me the makes my skin feel extremely hot and I get a sunburn easily. Well I always crave it and need it but sometimes substitutes work sometimes like a lot of meat in my diet. It kind of like being a vegetarian getting the nutrients that you need from alternate sources. I'm not sure about changing humans into vampires, but I don't know anyone who is sure about it. Some people have theories about it. I was born one, and they can give birth. Some say we age slower but not sure how long we live. We die like everyone else, of old age or of diseases or illness. If you have any more questions email me.

  2. Many cultures actually believe that their vampiric creatures were never human to begin with, but rather a seperate species, generally with some kind of demonic roots, and thus, they cannot be born or cured as they were never infected to begin with.

It is nearly universal that a vampiric creature cannot concieve or fertilize an embryo, thus they cannot have children.  To this there are rare exceptions, the most commonly known is what is called dhampir, the child of a powerful witch and a new-changed vampire.  The dhampir sustains itself with the blood of the vampire, no other will nourish it.

As to how long they live and how they die, the stories vary so extremely that one could take several pages on that.

I strongly recommend, if you are truely interested in the mythos, folklore, and legend, not just the Hollywood c**p, to read Jonathan Mayberry's monster encyclopedias, Vampire Universe and Cryptopedia.  They are very well researched, and have many quite obscure references in them.

  3. We do exist. Vampires are not like those in the movies or books, we don't drain unwilling victims of their blood. We have kind people who are called donors and they give us the blood or energy we need. Vampires are people who have energy deficiency and need to get that energy by taking it from other people. We don't die in the sun, can't fly, no super powers, can cross running water, garlic, holy water and the cross don't phase us (because we are not demons we are just different to normal people), we can see better at night than in the day, heightened senses, we do age(just not as fast) and we aren't immortal. There is no possible way to become a vampire you must be born one. Your parents don't have to be one.

  4. My closest friend recently awoke as a psi-vampire. I seem to show traits of one but I think I might be a thing called a psion. Back to vampires...

Anyone should be albe to drain people of their chakra (energy) like a psi-vamp, but a psi-vamp needs the chakra to power it's own, because a psi has problems with their astral body (the spiritual counterpart to our physical bodies. We all have one) Their astral bodies can't make enough energy by themselves so they feed on other's energy. You only have to be withing a certain radius to be drained. This distance varies from vamp to vamp. I do not know much about blood vampires. There are stories and evidence of "immortal" psi-vamps who are astral bodies of deceased psi-vamps that move without the physical body and feed on anyone convienent. These are VERY dangerous in some cases, but even minor ones should be delt with promptly.

  5. It seems like you are genuinely interested in the subject, which gets you rather far. We're hated by too many, so we tend to close off those people who don't want to hear our answers.

I do consider myself a vampire. Recently awakened, but well on my way. My "abilities" aren't completely developed, but they are making an appearance.

In all honesty, we only have a few abilities, but a WHOLE lot of weaknesses. On the ability side, we're got seeing in the dark really well, acute senses, a bit of extra strength (I think mine is still growing) and we can hide a bit better than we should be able to.

On the weakness side, we've got quite a list. I haven't met any psi's, so I can only speak from a sanguinarian point of view. There's the constant thirst, extreme aversion to sunlight, (we don't die in the sun, it's just quite painful and we burn very easily, get heat stroke, and I personally can't stand to look at anything reflecting the sun, as my eyes get sunburned.) I would also consider the nocturnal tendencies a weakness in modern culture, because all you humans seem so set on the daytime.

Now, blood drinking. Normally it's a bit rude to ask, but I can tell it's your first time asking. Blood drinking, to sum it up, is a want AND a need. I haven't seen many cases of people dying from not drinking blood, but it's torture. Going without blood for about a week or more is like going out food for you. The only difference is, vampires start to see blood everywhere. With the better senses, we start to see and hear people's pulses. And everyone gets hurt so much! It's hard not to latch on and start sucking.

When we finally do get it, though, it's wonderful. I've been told that it's different for every vamp, but for me, it feels like I was sick until I get some. Everything gets clearer, I feel amazing, I can do things I wasn't able to before, the world is my oyster.

You can't become a vampire. Every once in a while, you will find someone who "remembers" that they are a vampire from some sort of contact with them, but that's quite different. It's in our genes. It's not a disease. Blood contact won't turn you, because it's not blood borne. Being bitten, same thing.

It's my personal theory that we're not really a different species. As far as I know, we're just as capable of mating with humans as we are with other vamps. We might just be a subspecies, or a common evolution.

There are some vamps out there who say they will live longer than humans, but the general idea is, nope. We'll live just as long as you. We may appear to be younger, and might last a little more than you, but it's nothing like in the books. We're not hundreds of years old, and we die just like you.

And, thank you so much. The Twilight books are awful.

Hope this has helped! Best of luck on your search for the truth.
