Van Den Hoogenband expects Ian Thorpe to win gold in 2012 London Olympics
After the surprising announcement of Ian James Thorpe’s comeback, Van Den “Hoogie” stated he expects Thorpe to win at the London Olympics. He said, “I think he can win the 100m freestyle”.
Hoogie has been one of the strongest arch rivals of Ian Thorpe. He retains 3 Olympic gold medals. He states it’s nice to hear the news about Thorpe’s comeback. It will definitely create a huge interest in the public.
Meanwhile, Ian James Thorpe said he can certainly compete in the London Olympics next year. He added that London looked different and fascinating from all other venues.
Thorpe is training for 100m and 200m freestyles.

Van Den Hoogenband said, Thorpe has a bright chance to win the gold in 100m freestyle but at the same time we can expect gold for Michael Phelps.
Hoogie stated Thorpe has an incredible mental toughness, crudeness, and focus. He went on to describe Thorpe as a legendary swimmer, who is unique, acrobatic and versatile in his swimming style. He added no one can compete with Thorpe on the day when he
is in full rhythm.
“I'm one of the few swimmers that was always next to him and when you're always next to him you know he's special. When you're racing Thorpey, his technique, he's a special, special athlete”, he said.
In last week’s press conference, Ian James Thorpe said he had to take the decision and he has started his swimming training at Revesby pool regularly.
Thorpe against Phelps will be the most thrilling and exciting contest at the London Olympics. Both legendary swimmers have clarified earlier they are going to be participating in the London Olympics next year.
Van Den Hoogenband expects gold from Ian Thorpe but at the same time cannot overlook the presence of Michael Phelps.
