Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rafael Van Der Vaart’s future with the North London club has been cast into uncertainty after the arrival of Moussa Dembele.
The Dutchman had been an integral part of the squad ever since he arrived from Real Madrid two seasons ago in a surprise and deadline day transfer. The deal was reported to have been completed for a mere £8 million, which at that time was a bargain considering
his quality
Van Der Vaart made a sudden impact as he joined Tottenham and became a vital part of the squad. The attacking midfielder scored a total of 15 goals in his first full season for Tottenham and became somewhat of a cult figure in North London.
The midfielder went on to build on his first successful season and followed up with 13 goals in the 2011/2012 campaign. The player did however struggle with injuries and form, but still managed an average of 38 appearances over his first two seasons.
This transfer window has seen the player’s future clouded by uncertainty, with former club Hamburg keen on re-signing their star player. Hamburg had publicly stated their interest in the Dutchman, and had said that they will try and sign him before the transfer
window closes.
Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas had however denied all rumours and speculation and insisted that he intended in holding on to Van Der Vaart this season and that he was very much a part of his plans.
Tottenham recently signed attacking midfielder Moussa Dembele from Fulham in a £15 million deal from Fulham, and the Belgian’s arrival has put Van Der Vaart’s future into doubt once again. set to close tonight, the club is expected to sign at least another player.
With the recent Squad changes, it remains to be seen where Van Der Vaart fits in currently. It is understood that Hamburg are waiting on a decision by the player before tonight, and are hopeful that the player will be allowed to leave if Tottenham are able
to sign a player before the transfer window shuts down.
