Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rafael Van Der Vaart understands the situation his teammate Luka Modric currently finds himself involved in.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luka-Modric-c22857 has been the subject of very strong transfer speculation that links him
with a move away from White Hart Lane and off to Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Modric had previously been linked with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 two seasons ago in what has become one of the longest running transfer sagas the Premier League has witnessed recently. Tottenham had stated their desire of holding on to their star midfielder, and rejected
two bids by the Blues and managed to secure Modric’s services for a while longer.
Now, it looks as if the Croatian will finally have his wish and be allowed to leave the club, only if interested clubs are able to match Tottenham’s asking price of £40 million. Modric has recently gone missing in action as he failed to report for training
and refused to travel with the Tottenham squad for the pre-season tour of the US.
Manager Andre Villas-Boas has been critical of the Croatian’s behaviour, but teammate Rafael Van Der Vaart has nothing but sympathy for Modric. Van Der Vaart says that he understands the lure of a big club such as Real Madrid and believes every player wants
to play for a club like them.
Speaking to English media, Van Der Vaart said:
"You can't compare Real Madrid with other teams because they are the biggest team in the world”
"It was really an honour that I played there and I'm still really thankful. I think every player wants to play there."
Van Der Vaart also claims to have spoken to Modric regarding the situation and said that he hopes the situation is resolved as soon as possible, with the interests of all parties in mind.
The Dutchman added:
"I went to Luka's house and spoke to him after training. I told him what happened to me when I wanted to sign for Real [from Hamburg].”
"I've been one of the closest people to Modric in the dressing room and I feel for him. It is a difficult situation. The chairman is angry, but Luka is very upset with what is happening. I think everything will be fixed in three or four days."
