Tottenham Hotspur’s midfielder, Rafael Van Der Vaart has gone on to ask Ajax’s Vertonghen to go on and make the move to the White Hart Lane in the summers.
The defender has been linked with a move away from the Dutch League and at the moment, Arsenal and Tottenham are being hailed as the favourites to land the centre back.
Harry Redknapp recently went on to admit that he was more than willing to make a move for the Belgian international, but admitted that he would face a lot of competition in securing the defenders capture.
However, it seems like Tottenham have gone on to make an official move for the player and have started talks with Ajax over the potential capture of the defender.
Van Der Vaart has gone on to reveal that the club had asked him about how good the player was and if it was a wise move for them to invest in him.
The Dutch international is reported to have said: "Spurs asked me about him. If he's sensible, he will opt to join us."
The midfielder was then caught stating that it would be wise for him to join Tottenham and also revealed that the deal was on the brink of being completed.
"I hope Jan comes to Tottenham," he said. "As far as I know the deal is close to being done."
At the moment, Tottenham are using Van Der Vaart to try and get the defender to join their squad, while http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 are looking to ask Vermaelen to use his connections with the player to try and make him move to the Emirates.
Vermaelen has already played alongside Vertonghen for Ajax and the two are also international team mates for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Belgium-c2850.
Nonetheless, it is now going to be a wait till the end of the transfer window to see just what team ends up landing the talented defender.
