Arsenal’s skipper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robin-van-Persie-c31380 shrugged aside the disappointment of the Gunners defeat against Queens Park Rangers and remained vigilant that his side can finish third in the league at the end of the season.
Arsenal lost 2-1 to QPR on Saturday and Tottenham Hotspur made the most of the slip up from the Gunners, and went level with them on points after beating Swansea City 3-1 at the White Hart Lane.
Both the sides have 58 points from their 31 matches, with Arsenal ahead of the Spurs in the table on a better goal difference.
Despite the fact that Arsenal have to play Manchester City and Chelsea in their run-in to the season, Van Persie remained confident that his side are mentally prepared for the strenuous task and will aim to finish ahead of Spurs and the Blues.
“We have seven more games to play and I believe we can come third,” he told the reporters.
“Even last week when we were three points ahead [of Spurs] with eight games we never thought it was done. Chelsea won and came closer but we have to look at ourselves.”
Van Persie, who is the leading scorer in the Premier League this season with 26 goals, admitted that his side should have gone on to win the match against the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Theo-Walcott-c34873 had scored the equalizer for the Gunners.
However, he highlighted that the North London side can make amends for their defeat on Saturday by a win against City, but was aware that the Blue side of Manchester will be hungry for points themselves, after they were held to a 3-3 draw by Sunderland at
the Etihad Stadium.
“They are second but drew against Sunderland so they will need the points. We have seven big games to play but if you look at the big name teams then we have City and Chelsea. As a fan of football I always like to play those games.”
