http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757’s bowling all-rounder, Roelof van der Merwe, says that he ready to stake his claim for a place in the national team once again after improving on his overall game over the past 12 months.
The 27-year-old has not played for the national team since their tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Somerset-c843.
Despite his wealth of experience, he has often been sidelined for the national team duties, with the likes of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RJ-Peterson-c2332 ahead of him in the slow bowling department. He however, believes that the time spent out of the South African side has allowed him to improve on his overall game, most importantly his wicket-taking ability.
Moreover, his handiness with the bat is another area which has often given him the edge, making the player confident of regaining his position in the near future.
"I hope to stake a claim for national honours again now, especially since I feel I have more control over my bowling than ever before," van der Merwe said. "I'd love to play for South Africa again and hopefully the right people will notice when we do well as a team."
The 27-year-old is currently performing for his home franchise http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Titans-c856 in the ongoing Champions League T20. The team won their opening match against Perth Scorchers, with van der Merwe making his presence felt by conceding just 13 runs in his 3 overs, along with taking a wicket.
Their next match is against high-flying http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Auckland-c766 Aces, but the all-rounder has backed his side to maintain their winning run in the competition.
"They are a side that can be in trouble very quickly with their batting order," he said. "If we take a few wickets upfront, we'll be in with a good chance. If you look at the qualifying games, teams that lost two or three wickets in the first six overs, lost the game."
