The former Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin Van der Sar has urged his replacement http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-de-Gea-c10463 to turn a blind eye to the comparisons that constantly pit him up against the Dutchman and asked him that he should just focus
on the time at Old Trafford....
Manchester United’s young goalkeeper had a tough time in the 2011-2012 Premier League season as he started off brilliantly against Manchester City in the Community Shield but it was several months of doom and gloom for De Gea who
made some high profile errors as well.
De Gea found it hard to adapt to the style of play in the English Premier League as he got bullied at times by teams such as Stoke City and Bolton Wanderers. However things changed in due time for the new Manchester United shot
stopper as with proper training and the right match practice, De Gea won the Manchester United fans over.
It was his performance against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 in the Stamford Bridge which helped the Red Devils rescue a vital point by gaining a 3-3 win that really made him a favourite amongst the club’s fans. United finished second in the league
ultimately but De Gea had a positive end to the campaign. The Spanish youngster has been compared at times to Edwin Van der Sar which has just added to the pressure to perform on the young goalie.
Edwin Van der Sar said, "Maybe it was hard to follow in my footsteps. It can happen. People got compared to Peter Schmeichel, now maybe it's me. De Gea has to ignore that and just play his own game. He did get criticism last season
but I made mistakes at Ajax when I was young, and also at Juventus and United. The main thing is how you recover in the next game, or the game itself. He did that. He became more important as the season went on and made good saves."
Manchester United will definitely look for more clean sheets from De Gea next season as they aim to regain their Premier League title from the Etihad stadium by competing against Manchester City in yet another Premier League title
race.
