Hamburg attacking midfielder Rafael van der Vaart has insisted that he and his team members were the guilty party as they lost to Bayern Munich 3-0 over the weekend. He claimed that the Bundesliga defeat to league toppers Der FCB
was not due to the tactics of head coach Thorsten Fink.
The Dutch maestro further added that the players did not perform up to the level, and were not able to implement the trainer’s strategy. He admitted that Die Roten had a far better side than them, and said that he was satisfied
with Fink’s tactical approach.
"We players are to blame [for the loss], not the tactical approach of the coach. [Bayern] Munich simply were better than us. I was content with the system that the coach came up with," the former Tottenham man was quoted as saying
in an interview.
The tactician also discussed the commotion and stated that he shared the view of the summer signing, but stressed that his side lost due to poor defensive showing. He revealed that his tactics worked up to a certain extent. He
said that the plan was to de-motivate Bayern by allowing them minimum chances at goal.

"We did not fall behind because of the tactics. The opposite is the case. The [tactical] measures [we took] worked," he stated.
However, the first goal was a big blow and they could not recover after conceding it. Fink commented that they were on the offence with a corner-kick, but within a minute conceded the goal which was really frustrating. Following
the opener, they let in two more goals in the second-half which killed the game.

"It was our plan to demoralise the opponent. Before half-time, we did not allow many chances. Conceding the first goal was not due to tactics,” he finally concluded.
Hamburg are currently ninth in the league rankings and will make a trip to Freiburg for their next Bundesliga clash on November 10.
