The Dutch international insisted that his form has not been the best in the last few months and is looking forward to improved performances
Rafael Van der Vaart was signed from Tottenham Hotspur for a multi-million dollar fee by Hamburg SV in the summer and the player has not lived up to the expectations of the fans. The club’s performances, however, have improved
in Bundesliga and they have managed to finish the first-half of the season in 10th place on the standings table.
The former Real Madrid man has admitted that his finishing in front of goal has been poor and is confident that things will improve in the remaining course of the campaign. He stressed that the team needs to keep improving if they
want to land a place in Europe at the end of the season.
“I can improve my finishing. Normally I have to score 10 times per season. So far, I only scored one. Of course, if this doesn't work out I have to try to help [the team] in other areas. Even though I succeeded with that, I still
expect more of myself,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
On the other hand, the Dutchman believes that the first half of the campaign was a mixed bag as the team managed to get some very good results and also suffered some poor defeats as well.
The attacking midfielder insists that the club was struggling in the relegation zone for most part of the previous campaign and the fans should not suddenly expect the club to qualify for Europe with ease this time around.
“Yes, we do have potential and played some good matches during the first half of the season, but bad ones as well. We cannot forget where we're coming from. Now, all of the sudden, everyone expects us to qualify for the Europa
League again. This is too fast for me,” he concluded.
Rafael Van der Vaart left Tottenham Hotspur last summer and joined Rothosen to be with his family. The player has not had the impact which was expected of him but the displays have been impressive.
