The Hamburg attacker has insisted that he is looking forward to give his best for his new side and is keen to fulfil the expectations of the fans.
The Dutch international joined Rothosen earlier this summer from Tottenham Hotspur for a fee reported to be in the range of £10 million. The player had previously played for Hamburg and his first stint was a huge success at the
Imtech Arena. The player is yet to make his first appearance for the club this season and is expected to be in the line-up for the clash against Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday.
Rafael Van der Vaart claimed that there is definitely pressure on him to live up to the expectations of the fans as the supporters would want the performances he gave in his first stint. The attacker is confident that he can emulate
the success he had at Tottenham at his new club and is looking forward to the task.
The former Real Madrid man is confident that he will be a success at Hamburg and aims to take the club to success at the end of the season.
“Of course the pressure is there. Especially when you come back to a club where you already played really well. People expect a lot. The only thing I can do is play well and help the team, and then we will have to see if that is
enough in the end,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
On the other hand, the midfielder stated that Hamburg has some great players and sees a lot of potential in the squad. The Dutchman added that there is good competition for places which is very good for the side.
“I am having fun with the lads. I can see a lot of potential here with many young players. Things are looking good. People want to prove that they deserve a place in the team and this competition for places is very important. That
makes the other players even stronger,” he concluded.
Hamburg are currently 17th on the standings table after two losses in the opening two games.
