Van der Vaart in Madrid?

Due to my cable having on going debating with the GolTV channel I have yet to see VDV play in his new madrid uniform. I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what position he's been playing (Behind the strikers or on the wing?). Also what number has he been in during preseason and what lineup Schuster has been using so far.
