The Dutch international is confident that his side will only get better in the next few weeks and has denied relegation claims.
Rothosen have started the new season from where they left previously and are currently in 15th place on the Bundesliga standings table after two losses from the two games played. The team finished the previous season
in 15th place and marginally avoided going down to the 2.Bundesliga under manager Thorsten Fink.
Rafael Van der Vaart signed for the German giants for an undisclosed fee in the summer transfer window. He left his previous side Tottenham Hotspur to rejoin the side he played for from 2005-2008, signing a three-year deal.
The Dutch international called for calm after a dreadful start to the season. He admitted that the team needs some time to find the right mix and is confident that the side will return winning ways. He refused claims that the club
is contention for relegation at the end of the season judging by the current form.
The former Real Madrid attacker stated that the team has some great players and the side certainly has the potential to have a successful season. He insisted that the players will have to step up and improve on their displays if
they want the side to get back on track.
“I have signed a contract for the next three years, regardless of the competition we play in. I do not think we will be relegated. We have a good team and I am confident that we will soon hit our stride. We will have to do it all
together, though. I cannot do it all by myself,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The 29-year-old added that he has faith in the club and admitted that he would not have returned to the side if he did not have the belief in what the club can do.
“The team has a lot of potential. I would not have joined the club if I didn't think that,” he concluded.
Hamburg SV will next take on Eintracht Frankfurt in an away fixture at the Commerzbank-Arena in Frankfurt on Sunday, September 16.
