Question:

Van security ideas needed

I will be traveling cross-country and living in a camper van this year. It is a GMC Savana with windows on the rear doors. What security measures do you recommend I take, both to protect myself and my vehicle? Locks, "The Club", anti-theft, weapons, etc?

  1. id carry a gun and bring a dog. park in well lit areas

  2. 1.Believe it or not a window sticker that states auto alarm is a cheap, quick good start. Statistics show that it does help deter break-ins.

    2. Don't let whats inside your van show to the outside world. Curtains

in the back window at night or when parked . They will look inside with

or without a flashlight to see what you have left out in the open, then

they will decide to strike if you're showing "Eye Candy" stuff to them.

ie digital equipment, leather jackets, stuff for quick "grab and run".

    3. You may not be allowed to carry items such as Mace etc..and for

goodness sake don't think about weapons.  But you can carry a baseball bat for recreation "if you know what I mean. Just remember to

bring along a baseball too. A reasonable size knife for camping will not

be considered harmful, unless you parade it around.

    4. While I think of it.  Put a hide-a key somewhere on the vehicle just

in case you do the inevitable, which  happens all the time of vacations.

Just think of a good place and not your typical "sightseer spot" as a

location for it. (hint..duct tape it behind your license plate)...

    5. Before you leave, make sure you know where your spare is, extra engine oil, a jack etc....

I could go on an on but these are just a quick few thoughts....

ENJOY YOUR VACATION........  don't forget toilet paper......
