Vance Worley is on his way to come back from 15-day disabled list - MLB Update
The news that starter Vance Worley is not troubled by his right elbow that has spelled cheers across the Philadelphia Phillies camp. Following an injury by their ace Roy Halladay, they were short of a quality pitcher and this was going to compound their
worries.
Against the backdrop of a forgettable performance in the season, one can understand concerns manager showed, after he was reported with shoulder soreness.
However, he will be relieved now as starter Worley is about to come off the disabled list.
He threw 70 pitches and did not confront any problem with his elbow. This suggests that he will be in the Phillies' rotation soon.
As a result, he will be the best in line to replace Halladay, in case his injury turns our severe and keeps him out for a long time-period.
Worley was put on DL on May 12. By the time he left, his win-loss record was terrific. Management was concerned and was looking forward to his return at the earliest.
His return will come with extra responsibility on his shoulders. Replacing ace Halladay and becoming as good as he is, are not going to be easy for him.
Worley however is more concerned about making to the team as soon as possible than affecting his confidence by making unnecessary fuss of being given extra-responsibility.
"It's tough. I don't know exactly what's going on there right now. But I'm trying to get back as fast as I can anyway. I don't want to say there's more pressure, but I definitely want to be back ASAP. Especially now with that going on," he said.
At least for the moment, Worley is confident that inflammation has worn off. If it can reappear any time in the season is not yet confirmed, he stated. Unfortunately, if it does, Worley understands that it will be a disaster for him.
"I haven't felt anything," Worley said. "The inflammation has gone down. It's made it to where I'm not really feeling the bone chip right now. Will it come back? I don't know. If it does ... I don't have a choice."
Worley will love to become the bedrock of the Phillies’ recovery in the season. Only if he can show command and control, he has everything in his repertoire to become so.
