Vance Worley sparks as Philadelphia Phillies rout Atlanta Braves 6-3 - MLB Update
Philadelphia Phillies’ starter, Vance Worley had a notable day with the bat as he struck-out six batters in six inning pitches and threw his pitches with an ERA of 2.86 in the Phillies’ 6-3 win against the Atlanta Braves at Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia
on September 6.
In the first inning, Phillies added two runs to their score-card and got a 2-0 lead. Chase Utley hit a solo homer (416 feet) to centre-field. The second run was taken by Ryan Howard when Raul Ibanez drove a single-run shot to right-centre. Later on, Hunter
Pence moved towards third base to end the first inning.
The pitchers did not surrender any run in the second and third inning. Braves’ first baseman, Freddie Freeman struck-out, Alex Gonzalez flied out and Jose Constanza grounded out to third base without taking any run during second inning. Similarly, Shane
Victorino walked at the bottom of second inning but Placido Polanco grounded out to short-stop and Worley grounded out to third base.
Michael Bourn reached towards second base on an infield single and Martin Prado hit a grounder into fielder’s choice to second base but Tim Hudson grounded out without yielding any run in the third inning. Dan Uggla struck a solo homer (412 feet) towards
right-centre to cut their deficit 2-1 at the top of fourth inning.
The batters again struggled in the fifth inning. Worley gave up three walks, two runs, seven hits, one homer and two earned runs on his 108 pitches. In the sixth inning, Uggla scored a single run for Braves when Gonzalez hit a sacrifice fly to left-field.
On the other hand, Phillies scored two runs to advance their lead 4-2.
Howard scored a single run and Pence moved to third base on wild pitch of Hudson. The second run was taken by Pence when Ibanez hit a double-run shot to deep centre-field. During seventh inning, Bourn added one run when Uggla hit a grounder into fielder’s
choice to third base and Brian McCann got out to second base.
Conversely, Phillies raised their lead 6-3 by posting another couple of runs. Howard was grounded out to second base but Victorino scored one run. The final run for Phillies was taken by Utley when Ibanez singled off right-field.
As a result, Phillies confirmed a 2-0 lead in the three-game series at Philadelphia.
