Hello.

Two days from now I'll be supposedly moving to Abbotsford, BC, to start attending the University of the Fraser Valley. I have several questions which need to be answered by a citizen of the mentioned cities.

1. Exactly how far is Downtown Vancouver to Abbotsford?

2. As I'll be arriving to Vancouver, can you give me some tips on how to find the best bus/train/skyrail route to get to Abbotsford and approximately how much is it going to cost me?

3. I've heard about Coquitlam. They said it is one of the best cities to live in with comparison for Vancouver. My question is, how far away is Coquitlam from Abbotsford? Will it be a great option if I decide to stay there in an apartment and go to UFV everyday? Or is it going to be too much to handle?

An answer with great depth would be greatly appreciated.

Best opinion gets 10 points.

Thanks!

  1. Abbots ford Is about 2 hours from vancouver by Greyhound bus Coquitlam not bad  But to hard to get abbotsford  My daughter live in abbotsford  And is happy  Bear in a mind  a high crime rate

  2. my daughter attends UFV but lives in abbotsford.  I really think you will find coquitlam to abbotsford to be too far and too complicated daily by transit.   Even driving would be tough but by bus... very long day.

It will take a couple hours each way.  You would be better off living in abbotsford is you can.  (plus its cheaper rent generally than coquitlam and more of a self-standing city than is coquitlam which is very much a suburb and not much else)

You will find transit between abbotsford and the city of Vancouver to be quite poor.  Abbotsford has just been added to the "TransLink" area of Vancouver Metro area but service is still very minimal.

Abbotsford to Downtown Vancouver is about 45 km.

  3. It's quite a distance from downtown Vancouver to Abbotsford. By transit it would be at least a couple of hours or more.

It will cost you $5.00 from Vancouver to Langley, seeing that Abbotsford has its own bus system (BC Transit vs. Translink), it may cost you another bus fare in addition to the $5.00. That fare would only be $2.50 after 6:30pm and on weekends and holidays. Call 604-953-3333 to speak with someone about this. (press "0" a few times if you get a recorded message.) Also you could check out the website http://www.translink.bc.ca

How far Coquitlam is from Abbotsford depends on your mode of travel and the time of day. During non-peak times driving it may be about 30-45 minutes. It will be longer during rush hour. On transit it will be longer, call that number or check that website for more exact information.

I personally wouldn't want to live in Coquitlam and travel to Abbotsford for school. It's a little far. I'd rather have my time to myself rather than sitting on a bus or in traffic. I don't think Coquitlam is all that much different than Abbotsford, but then again my opinion is based on spending not a lot of time in either place. I say, get a place in Abbotsford.
