Vancouver Canucks Alex Edler, Jason Garrison on Ice, Still Awaiting Clearance -NHL Update
Vancouver Canucks Alexander Edler and Jason Garrison, who were a couple of players for the Canadian, National Hockey League (NHL), that were injured during the offseason, have reportedly begun training with the team again but are yet to receive official
clearance.
The two were still receiving their salary due to the injury status that allows them to continue availing full team facilities while the other NHLers are completely locked out, but they could be joining the others soon when the club will notify their medical
clearances.
Edler faced a number of back issues, including a bulging disc which had him out during the offseason, but he did play a full 82-game regular season with the Canucks this past hockey year and put up 49 points (11 goals, 38 assists) and 34 penalty minutes
in total.
“It's getting better obviously,” Edler said in his first public comments since the lockout began Sept. 15, according to the Vancouver Sun. “It's a frustrating injury. You have to be very patient with it but I feel like it's going the right way. Surgery will
be absolutely a last resort. As of now, the rehab is working so I'm going to keep doing that.”
There are three players in total who are on the injured list for the Vancouver club, including Edler, Jason Garrison and Ryan Kesler as well. Garrison went out with groin related issues, while Kesler is still recovery from a surgery on his shoulder.
Since there is no regular season in sight as of yet, all three have decided to take it slow and ensure a full recovery instead of rushing into anything, since there is literally nothing to rush into.
“I think it's an injury you have to take slowly anyway,” Edler responded. “Obviously I'd rather see us starting whatever stage I'm at. I'd like to get the season going no matter what. I don't really know when I'll be cleared to play. I'm just going to take
it one day at a time.”
Garrison, a 27-year-old native of White Rock, British Columbia, Canada, put up 33 points (16 goals, 17 assists) last season in 77 games.
