Vancouver Canucks Daniel Sedin: 2011’s most likely MVP
Vancouver has celebrated their 40th anniversary in the biggest way possible this season. They have achieved so many milestones and records which were never seen before in the franchise’s history. This regulation season, Canucks has had a solid
performance, which will take them deep into the postseason and hopefully into the finals.
Players like Ryan Kesler, Henrik Sedin, Manny Malhotra, Roberto Lunogo and so many more are the reason why the team has reached the status they have today in the National Hockey League (NHL).
But one stands out above them all, and he is Canucks’ left wing, Daniel Sedin.
The second overall pick in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, Daniel has played all of his 10 professional league seasons with Vancouver Canucks.
It is because of his motivation that his club has for the first time ever secured the top spot in the league on the whole.
It has been a season of achievements for Sedin.
In his recent game against Los Angeles Kings, he scored his 100th point of the season and helped his team capture the infamous Presidents Trophy for the best record in the league.
Other than leading the NHL in points, he’s ranked third in most assists (59) and goals (41).
"It's probably one of the biggest games we've ever played.” “It’s huge I'm so happy right now," Said Sedin, after their win against the Kings.
If named MVP than it will also establish a new league record for two brothers winning it consecutively.
His brother Canucks’ captain, Henrik Sedin, who leads the league in assists, is the previous winner of the prestigious award.
Before being drafted to the NHL, the Swedish player started out his career with MODO hockey of the Swedish Elite League.
Many known names have their roots in MODO, like the legendary Peter Forsberg.
Throughout his life, his playing style has been always more of an attacker and goal scorer. Brother Henrik is better known as the playmaker and assister.
Both combine to make an unstoppable offensive onslaught.
But it was not always like that. When they were newly introduced into the league, they were not used to all the toughness and brutality of the NHL. They did not fight back or take action against those who hit them.
At one time the media started to refer to them as the “Sedin Sisters”. But over the years both have gained due respect which no one can point a finger at.
“Henrik and Daniel have made this team into something we never thought possible. They both play selflessly and look to make sure everyone has a chance to contribute,” said Canucks coach Alain Vigneault.
Vancouver is the only team to have clinched their conference. They have high hopes not only this season but into the play-offs as well.
Canucks have brought hope to a country which has not been able to see the cup for over 18 years now, even though they were the ones to invent the game. When compared to the top team in the opposite conference, Philadelphia, it is an assurance that Vancouver
is very strong and capable of bringing home the cup this time around.
Other than being in consideration for the Most Valuable Player award, he is also up for the Art Ross Trophy which is awarded to players who have contributed the most points.
At the end it just might be something that the judges will have to do no matter what, as the fans in every match shout only one thing when they see him and that is “MVP!, MVP!”
