Vancouver Canucks Release Details on injured Alex Edler, Jason Garrison injuries -NHL Update
Alex Edler and Jason Garrison of the Vancouver Canucks had been reported to be injured over the offseason, but the National Hockey League (NHL) franchise was, for unknown reasons, hesitant to release the details of their defensemen.
The Vancouver Canucks finally came out on October 12, 2012, and told the media that both defenders, which are integral part of the Vancouver defensive department, have suffered injuries during their offseason training regiments. It was reported by the Vancouver
Canucks that both defensemen were injured prior to the NHL lockout taking effect when the previous collective bargaining agreement came to an end, officially on September 15.
Assistant general manager of the Vancouver Canucks, Laurence Gilman, made the news public while talking in an interview.
"Both players sustained injuries in the course of their preparation for the season prior to Sept. 15 which necessitates their rehabilitation being supervised by the club," Gilman said. "Alex has a bulging disc in his back."
It is known that Edler suffered a bulging disc in his spinal cord back in 2011 and missed two months because of it, but it is not sure whether the injury is related to that or another one altogether. He is reported to be requiring surgery, of which the details
may be released later on.
Garrison on the other hand, is facing a groin injury, but it has been cleared by Gilman that it is not of a serious nature and the defender is believed to recover from it soon.
"It was something he was getting treatment for prior to Sept. 15, so that gives us the ability to supervise his rehabilitation," Gilman added.
Both players now join Ryan Kesler, as players who are still entitled to a salary and full use of team facilities due to being injured through the lockout.
Edler is a 26-year-old from Ostersund, Sweden, and was drafted as the 91st overall back in 2004 by Vancouver. Up until now, he has a total of 386 games under his belt and 184 points (43 goals, 141 assists) and 200 minutes of penalty time.
Jason Garrison is a 27-year-old, undrafted native of White Rock, British Columbia, Canada. He has 190 games to his name with 59 points (23 goals, 36 assists).
