Vancouver Canucks Ryan Kesler expects to play next season, unsure when –NHL Injury Update
Vancouver Canucks might just have to start the new 2011-2012 regular season without their All-Star American player, Ryan Kesler, as he expressed lack of confidence on his current health and on how he is feeling at the moment.
In an interview with NHL.com, Kesler did not show that he is entirely incapable of making a return anytime soon, but rather termed it as something which changes with day-to-day progression and could have him back earlier or even later.
"Uh, maybe, but who knows", Kesler said, trying to make his point as clear as possible without dissapointing. "I'm telling the truth when I tell you I don't know. To be honest, right now if you ask me if I'll be ready for the start of the season, the way
I feel right now I'd say no”.
Having had one of the best runs of his career during the last season, potting 73 points (41 goals, 32 assists) in 82 games and another top-notch performance throughout their Stanley Cup stretch which ended with a surprising game-seven loss against the Eastern
Conference champions, Boston Bruins, Kesler had to face the knife.
He was forced to undergo surgery for a tear in his hip near the end of July, a procedure similar to what he underwent in January of 2007. After his first surgery, Kesler returned after 10 weeks but terms his current condition as bigger than last time, signalling
that it could take longer than expected.
Going through a lengthy recovering process is never easy and Kesler was no exception.
"Living on a lake, you always want to be outside and doing something, but it was brutal", said Kesler during the interview with NHL.com. "After two weeks I could start swimming in the pool, so at least I could do some stuff".
Taking proper time off will eventually be beneficial for Ryan Kesler, who at the age of 27, still has a long career ahead of him. Overtaking the process onto the fast lane will only create problems for him later on and could possible even stunt his future.
