Vancouver Canucks against Boston Bruins, for the first time in the history of the National Hockey League post-season (Part 1)
Vancouver Canucks should be quite used to coming up against teams that they have never faced during the postseason before.
If we talk about the current run for the Stanley Cup, this is the third team that has come Canucks’ way that they haven’t faced ever before.
Canucks has been brilliant during the course of the play-offs and hasn’t let any team beat them. They are expected to come up with a strong show once again as they gear up to face the Eastern Conference Champions, Boston Bruins.
"They're a great team, obviously they've got a lot of good forwards that can put the puck in the back of the net and solid ‘D' led by the big guy (Zdeno Chara)", forward, Alexandre Burrows, said on Saturday, less than 24 hours after Bruins beat Tampa Bay
1-0 in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals. "(They have) one of the best goalies in the League so they play a great defensive system, and they've got a great coach so it's going to be a tough match-up".
Daniel Sedin said, "I think they're a well-coached team, good defensively and they have some forwards up front that are really skilled, and big".
Canucks has done quite well against Eastern Conference teams that it has faced during this regular season.
Canucks won eleven, lost five and bagged a point in two games.
However, one of the losses that Canucks suffered was at the hands of Bruins. The two teams met only once during the regular season and Bruins was successful in claiming victory over Canucks.
The game was played on the 26th of February 2011 at the Rogers Arena. Many fancied Canucks to win but Bruins turned out to be a tough team that scored the first goal through Milan Lucic, who later assisted two goals. The game ended on a high note
for Bruins as they notched up a 3-1 win while playing on away ice.
Canucks’ only goal in the game was scored by Manny Malhotra.
Malhotra has been facing eye problems which have restricted him from playing for over two months now. Much to the relief of the player and the team, Malhotra is declared fit and all set to play in the Stanley Cup Final.
All the above mentioned statistics combined with the Stanley Cup up for grabs, affirms a very interesting battle, expected to be remembered for years to come.
