Vancouver Canucks and Boston Bruins ready to make history in Game 7 of 2011 Stanley Cup Finals
Vancouver Canucks and Boston Bruins are all set to make history on Wednesday night as they face off in the historic Game 7 of the 2011 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Finals at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Both teams have a lot at stake and are certainly going to give it all they have got in order to grab a piece of history and engrave their names on Lord Stanley’s Cup forever. There would be nothing better for either team than to win the game-seven decider
and take the cup home.
Playing throughout the dramatic regular season and playoff series, these teams have proved that they are the best in their respective conferences and now have to prove whether they are the league champions.
Boston has not won the Stanley Cup championship since 1972 and has been struggling to even make it into the finals since having its last chance in 1990.
Vancouver, on the other hand, has to enter its name into the winners list for the first time and ending off the series with a win would not only give it its first cup, but also end its 40th anniversary in an ecstatic manner.
"It's coming down to one game", Boston’s forward, Mark Recchi, said. "This is what we dream of, when you're little kids playing street hockey, you know, you're in Game 7. We're going to go up there and we're going to go lay it on the line like they are,
and I think it's going to be an exciting game. We're going to do whatever we can".
This Stanley Cup series has been a tough fight between two people, Vancouver’s goalie, Roberto Luongo, and Boston’s goalie, Tim Thomas. The two have been fighting and struggling to overpower the other and prove a point in being the number one goaltender
in the league.
"We're going to put what happened (in Game 6) behind us as soon as possible, and get ready for obviously what is going to be a dream, playing in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals", Luongo said on Monday. "I've been in those situations before. I know how to
handle it. I'll be ready for it".
The interesting part of the series is that the six games played so far have always been won by the home team.
As game seven returns to Vancouver, Canucks is sure to have that dominating home-ice advantage, which it should capitalise on.
Unlike previous speculations, Luongo will be starting Game 7 and will not be replaced by backup goalie, Corey Schneider.
Canadian fans can be especially excited about Wednesday’s matchup since they will finally be getting a chance to take back the cup and end their 18-year trophy drought which has embarrassed the country that started hockey in the first place.
The fans and players are ready for Game 7 which would be an event of the decade between Vancouver Canucks and Boston Bruins, starting at 8:00 PM ET at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver.
