Vancouver Canucks: The 1994 team’s road to success (Part 2)
Vancouver Canucks was without any doubt high on confidence but they had a lot of work still left if they wanted to win the series and move into the second round.
Game 6 put forth a very tough task of winning the game against a Flames side that was eager to avenge them.
Canucks had the advantage of playing the game on home ice and was expecting to win and level the series. The game was level on 2-2 at the end of regulation time and once again it had to be decided in overtime.
This time there was a new hero in the Canucks camp, Trevor Linden, who scored a brilliant goal to win the game for Canucks and level the series on 3-3.
With the win, there were lots of talks as to which team would win the series. Although Flames showed the right attitude, the confidence and momentum was most definitely in favour of Canucks.
Game seven turned out to be another close encounter that had to be decided in overtime.
Greg Adams was able to show the best of his abilities as he scored a very late goal in the final period to level the scores at 3-3 which put the game into overtime.
Kirk McLean, Canucks’ goalkeeper was able to come up with a strong performance and made some brilliant saves during the course of the game. One of his save was absolutely brilliant and is said to be the best save in the history of the play-offs.
Two Canucks players’, Theoren Fleury and Robert Reichal, combined really well to create a brilliant chance. They almost found the back of the net which was even signaled as a goal by the referees.
However, when it was reviewed it was reversed as the puck was stopped on the line by the brilliant goalkeeper.
Canuck continued to create chances for themselves as they continuingly fired shots on goal and came up with some superb pieces of play.
One such play saw the puck landing with Pavel Bure who went past the Flames’ defence. The pass that was intercepted by him came through a bunch of players and landed right in front of him.
After this, he used his skill to fake the goalkeeper and score the winning goal of the game to win the game and put Canucks in the second round after an amazing comeback in the series.
