Vancouver Canucks appoint Scott Arniel as AHL's Chicago Wolves coach -NHL offseason Update
Scott Arniel might not have been successful is finding another job in the National Hockey League (NHL), but at least he is still behind the bench as Vancouver Canucks appointed the former Columbus Blue Jackets coach as their main man behind the bench for
minor league affiliates in the American Hockey League (AHL), the Chicago Wolves.
Canucks general manager, Mikke Gillis, made the announcement on Tuesday, June 26, 2012, and was definitely excited to have a major league coach leading their minor league team.
"We are thrilled to have Scott return to our organization," Canucks GM Gillis said. "He has had a large impact on the development of a number of our current roster players and we are confident he'll again play an instrumental role in player development.
Scott brings a great deal of character, experience and expertise to the head coaching position."
Arniel was brought on to the Columbus Blue Jackets team prior to the 2010-2011 NHL regular season and had two season to prove his worth. Unfortunately, things did not work his way at all as Blue Jackets continued to end the season at the bottom of the league
standings.
Columbus was by far the worst team in the NHL at the end of both seasons despite a number of changes like bringing on big name players such as Jeff Carter and having Rick Nash as the team captain.
This is not Arniel’s first time working for one of Vancouver’s affiliates. He was the head coach of their former minor league team, the Manitoba Moose, from 2006-2010 before landing the NHL position with Columbus. The Manitoba Moose are now the affiliates
of the newly relocated, Winnipeg Jets.
Not having a great run in the NHL, Scott Arniel is reported to use this job as one which will allow him to get back into the major league afterwards. Proving his worth once again is something Arniel hopes on doing, but that will definitely require some hard
work and reinventing his techniques.
Chicago Wolves have a new coach and new season to look forward to along with the hope of Scott Arniel leading them to be a better team as well.
