Vancouver Canucks book a place in Conference Finals with a 2-1 win over Nashville Predators
The sixth game of a semi-final series was played this past Monday (May 9, 2011) at the Bridgestone Arena that saw the Vancouver Canucks winning 2-1 in the end.
The game was very crucial for both teams, as the Canucks led the series 3-2 and a win for either of the teams would mean a lot. The Canucks at one stage were in a position to storm past the Predators, who came up with a decent performance.
However, this game ended in favour of the Canucks meaning that they won the series 4-2.
The Predators were very strong on the offence during the course of the first period but the Canucks matched them. Although the Predators came across a lot of easy scoring chances, it was the Canucks, who scored twice in the period, to get into a comfortable position.
The Predators were superb on offence and defence in the second period and scored a goal to cut the lead to a single goal.
However, despite both teams firing several shots on goal, the period ended goalless, with the Canucks winning the game 2-1. Ryan Kesler was named the star of the game as he ended the night with two assists.
The Predators put the foot on the gas right from the start but the Canucks managed to fight their way back into the game. The President’s Trophy winner successfully scored in the eighth minute through Mason Raymond to get into the lead. The goal was scored as a result of a superb backhand shot that went flying into the back of the net.
The goal gave the Canucks a lot of confidence that allowed them to keep on attacking. Eveentually, the Canucks scored in the 10th minute, once again during power-play, through Daniel Sedin from a well placed flick shot.
The period ended with the Canucks leading 2-0, as they made seven shots on goal while the Predators made 11 goal attempts.
There was nothing much to talk about in the second period besides the fact that the Predators were the lone dominating team.
The 20 minutes of play witnessed the Canucks restricted to only two shots on goal while the Predators made seven shots on goal. Out of the seven shots, one shot in the fourth minute found the back of the net.
The goal was scored by David Legwand that cut the Canucks lead to a single goal. The period came to an end with the Canucks leading 2-1.
The final 20 minutes of play began with the Predators coming up with a few shots on goal. The Canucks were able to pile up a few shots too. However, there were no goals as the period and the game ended with the Canucks winning 2-1 in the end.
The win meant that the Canucks won the series 4-2 and became the first team to book a place in the Western Conference Finals.
