Vancouver Canucks bounce back 4-1 against New York Islanders -NHL Match Update
Vancouver had a minor disturbance in their winning streak as the Anaheim Ducks edged them in their last contest, but the Canucks bounced back and dominated the New York Islanders, 4-1, Sunday night, November 13, 2011, at the sold-out Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
New York had a good start to the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season but ever since their three-game winning streak was snapped by the Tampa Bay Lightning, they have not been able to recover with the same momentum and are currently at the last spot in the Eastern Conference with a 4-7-3record.
"Something has to change", New York coach, Jack Capuano, said. "We can't have guys continue to lose and be comfortable to be in the line-up. You can't go a whole game and not get a power play. That's just a lack of work ethic, and that's a controllable circumstance. … Work ethic and determination are things you can control and some guys better find it".
Aaron Rome fired off early in the opening period to put Vancouver ahead by one. New York’s, Mark Eaton was penalised with less than three minutes remaining, giving the Canucks their first power play advantage, but they failed to capitalise on it.
Henrik Sedin added his sixth of the season 34 seconds into the second period, giving Kevin Bieksa an assist. The Islanders finally got on the scoreboard with Matt Moulson answering nearly 15 minutes later, forcing an intense third period.
Vancouver dominated in the final 20 minutes as Cody Hodgson took advantage of their third added man advantage while David Booth potted an empty netter with New York substituting their goalie for an extra forward.
"The guys give me a hard time, so it's fun", Rome said after the match. "Lots of fun scoring goals, getting points, winning games".
New York Islanders have the next three at home, starting off with the New York Rangers on Tuesday while the Vancouver Canucks will be hosting the Chicago Blackhawks, who are also currently leading the Western Conference and the entire league with 25 points, on Wednesday.
Vancouver will certainly be looking forward to continue winning in their three game home stay and if they defeat Chicago, it will be much easier against the Ottawa Senators in the following game.
