Vancouver Canucks bring Dan Cloutier on board as Goaltending Consultant -NHL Update
Vancouver Canucks have hired former National Hockey League (NHL) goalie, Dan Cloutier, as the franchise’s new goaltending consultant, a move which is seen by many something that will definitely help them improve in the department that has been costing them the most.
With his vast experience in playing in tough situations, Vancouver Canucks hope to fully utilize Cloutier’s expertise to help the young goaltenders like Cory Schneider, who is going to be taking over the top spot in front of the net for the Canadian club.
“I’ve been through a lot in my hockey career. There’s not too many things I didn’t go through. I know how excited and how hungry these kids are. I am an easy guy to talk to and I hope they feel comfortable talking to me about any of their issues. I am definitely looking forward to helping them,” Cloutier said, according to Vancouversun.com.
Cloutier is a former 26th overall draft of round-one of the 1994 NHL Entry Draft by the New York Rangers. The native of Mont-Laurier, Quebec, Canada, has experience playing not only for the Rangers, but also the Tampa Bay Lightning, Vancouver Canucks and Los Angeles Kings.
It was only with the Vancouver Canucks that Cloutier saw the playoffs with and maintained a .872 save percentage and 3.31 goals-against average. He might not have been the best in the league but really contributed for the teams he played for in tough times.
“It’s always nice, especially for a young goalie, to learn from somebody that has been through it and somebody that you can talk to about both on-ice and off-ice stuff,” Cloutier said Tuesday, after the official announcement by the team, making his appointment in the goaltending consultant/player development position.
Cloutier has 351 games under his belt with 139 wins and 142 losses and also played for various teams in the American Hockey League (AHL) as well.
It will definitely be exciting to see how Dan Cloutier manages to improve the Vancouver Canucks overall and helps the Canadian club finally reach the Stanley Cup championship, something they have been yearning for ever since they joined the NHL over 40 years ago.
