Vancouver Canucks certain consistency will lead to Stanley Cup in future -NHL offseason Update
Vancouver Canucks gave it their all during the now passed but still fresh 2011 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Finals against Boston Bruins. It was a one of a kind stretch in their 40 year plus history but the question remains; will Vancouver ever
get such a chance at Stanley Cup glory ever again?
Looking at their so far offseason performance, it can easily be observed that Vancouver truly is trying to keep them top-notch for the new upcoming season which is set to begin in October.
Vancouver Canucks general manager, Mike Gillis, still might be feeling the pain of letting the trophy slip out of hands reach but that does not mean he is not optimistic for the new season.
"We played the best teams in the league through the playoffs", said Gillis, who was named the NHL's top executive last season. "No one suggested we needed to have a different look”.
Regarding his team as one of the best in the league along with exploiting their desire and passion for winning the most coveted prize in the hockey world, Gillis thinks that he could have done more during the offseason but terms it as something not in his
control at all times.
"Of course there are certain players that you would love to have that are on other teams and (you) think they would fit in well here. They are impossible to get at this point. We are really confident in the group we have", GM Gillis said about key players
missed.
The biggest signing Vancouver did over the quickly ending offseason was signing forward player, Marco Sturm, a veteran performer who has numerous experience playing with top level teams like San Jose Sharks, Boston Bruins, Los Angeles Kings and most recently,
Washington Capitals.
Sturm was signed on to a one-year deal worth an estimated $2.25 million.
No matter how many key players Gillis signs or retains, he believes that consistency is the ultimate way to achieve their goals.
"For our team we have set it up so there is real consistency", GM Gillis added.
