Vancouver Canucks clinches Northwest Division and crushes Colorado Avalanche 4-2 – NHL Updates
Vancouver Canucks has really laid the smack down in these past few games. It has shown that it is number one and that it is going to win the cup this year. Canucks defeated Colorado Avalanche at home on Wednesday night for their seventh straight victory
by 4-2 at the sold out Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Vancouver Canucks is relentless in its game play, letting the other team get a little confident in the opening minutes, then manhandling it throughout the game.
It has got to get rid of this habit when playoffs start, because this technique might seem fun in regulation season, but it could cost it later on.
Cory Schneider opened up the match against the guests making 27 saves, allowing two goals midway through the first by Colorado’s Erik Johnson, getting his first of the season during a power-play and another by Matt Duchene, taking an early 2-0 lead.
The crowd realised something wasn’t right when Avalanche took over the match, but realised that it was Canucks’ own doing when they saw those nasty little grins on the home team’s faces.
The next 20 minutes brought a little preview for Colorado Avalanche to show them what the Canucks were about to do with them.
Maxim Lapierre shot his first of the season through opposing goalie, Brian Elliott, who felt helpless in the final period.
Daniel Sedin added to his record of highest points and assists in the lead, opening up Alex Burrows and Henrik Sedin to overtake the lead, 11:50 into the final.
Colorado was stunned all of a sudden as Vancouver took over the match, pondering upon the first period in which they thought they were about to beat the league leaders.
Henrik Sedin scored his second of the night and 18th of the season unassisted on an empty net to grasp the game with less than two minutes remaining.
As a result of its seven out of eight victories this month, Vancouver clinched the Northwest Division, becoming the first team to do so.
The NHL leaders don’t look like slowing down anytime soon, and that’s a good sign for the franchise and for Canada whose hopes are high for a Stanley Cup to come to them this year after such a long wait.
