Vancouver Canucks’ defenseman Aaron Rome regrets ban, not hit on Nathan Horton –NHL Playoffs Update
The key defensive player for Vancouver Canucks, Aaron Rome, finally spoke out to the media about his ban for the first time since it was enforced on him in Game 3 against Boston Bruins in the 2011 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Finals’ series, saying that he does not regret the hit at all.
"I couldn't put it into words for you", said Rome "You work hard all season and all playoffs, and for myself being in and out of the lineup getting chance to play every day, working your (tail) off to be out there at this time of the season. It's disappointing”.
Speaking to the media on Sunday after the team’s practice in Boston, Rome said that if given the opportunity he would most probably make the same play because it was his style of play, given that he is a defenseman.
He certainly does regret hurting Boston Bruins’ forward, Tim Horton, which caused the NHL’s disciplinary officials to award him with a four game ban and Horton to be out of the series as well with serious injuries.
“If I could go back, obviously you don't want anybody to get hurt, but I don't think I'd change the decision”, said Rome adding that it was a split second decision and that he had to do what he thought was right at the moment.
It has not been easy for Boston Bruins after it lost one of its main attackers.
The 26-year-old right winger from Welland, Ontario, Canada, boasted a 17 point record in the postseason which was the eighth highest. He had eight goals and nine assists in a total of 21 games played.
Horton is alright and will fully recover but not in time to join the team during its most crucial games in over 20 years. Same goes for Vancouver Canucks’ defenseman who was banned for four games after Game 3, which meant he would be out for the remainder of the series.
Both players can only pray for their teams now who have two games left to go, while Vancouver has the chance to edge out Boston in Game 6 and take the first Stanley Cup home, Boston is not ready to give up and vows to force a Game 7 decider.
