Vancouver Canucks drop points losing 3-1 against Nashville Predators at crucial stage
The league leaders went to the Vancouver Canucks went to Bridgestone Arena to play the home team Nashville Predators. The game was very important for both teams with Predators looking to make it into the play-off cut while the Canucks wanted to maintain
the lead up front with the Flyers coming ever so close to them.
The first period ended goalless with both teams coming up with good performances. However, the second period saw the Predators being more productive of the two sides as they scored three goals while Canucks scored once. This is how the game finished with
the Predators winning the game 3-1. Pekka Rinne, goalie of the Predators was named the star of the game as he made 35 saves out of the 36 shots firing on his goal.
Canucks showed why they were leading the league as they were very strong offensively at the start of the game. They not only dominated possession but came up with strong goal attempts. However, Rinne was able to deal with the pressure early on very well.
With the passage of time, Predators got better and better and they started to create chances for themselves. The game turned into an offensive battle and it looked as if a goal or two would be scored soon. Unfortunately, this didn’t happen due to some good
work at the back by both defences.
The period didn’t see any goal scored and ended with the scores on 0-0. Predators made 8 goal attempts in the period while Canucks made 13 goal attempts.
Both teams came out in the second period determined to score and displayed some excellent ice hockey in their attempts in doing so. There were scoring chances for both sides right from the start but they couldn’t find the back of the net.
The offence of both teams was without a doubt dominating the proceedings and it was Predators who scored in the 15th minute through Martin Erat from a well placed shot to get into the lead. The pressure put on both the defence didn’t see much
change after the goal.
However, as the end of the period approached shots on goal became frequently as Canucks scored in the 19th minute through Daniel Sedin during power play to level the scores. However, their joy was short-lived as the Predators scored once again
in the same minute to get back into the lead. The goal was scored by Nick Spalling from a backhand shot.
Predators finished the productive performance in the period with another goal in the final minute through Mike Fisher’s simple tip in shot. The period ended with the Predators leading 3-1 as they made 10 goal attempts in the period while Canucks made 14
goal attempts.
The final period saw both teams’ come up with brilliant performances as they cut down numerous attacks which could have resulted in goals for either of the teams. Though there were some goal attempts made during the course of the period but the goal keepers
were able to deal with this.
The period and the game ended with the Predators winning the game 3-1. During the course of the final period, Canucks made 7 goal attempts while the Predators made 8 goal attempts.
