Vancouver Canucks fall 1-2 against the San Jose Sharks
One of the important matches of the Thursday was Vancouver Canucks playing host to the San Jose Sharks at the Rogers Arena. This was the 706th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series which saw 19,000 fans coming to witness the match.
The San Jose Sharks put up quite a fight during which they totally dominated the second period and in the end won the match 2-1 after shootout. Roberto Luongo, goal keeper of the Vancouver Canucks was named the star selection of the match making 45 saves
during the course of the match.
San Jose Sharks made a brilliant start to the match as they came up with decent pieces of play. Passing and shooting were both superb which resulted in San Jose Sharks coming across scoring opportunities. Roberto Luongo, goalie of the Canucks came up with
a decent performance making save after saves.
Vancouver Canucks after making a slow start got stronger and stronger with the passage of minutes. The home team managed to score in the 12th minute to get into the lead. The goal was scored by Henrik Sedin.
Vancouver Canucks continued to attack and in doing so, came across several goal scoring opportunities but they failed to capitalize from any of them and score. The period ended with the Vancouver Canucks leading 1-0 heading into the break. During the course
of the period San Jose Sharks made 10 goal attempts while Vancouver Canucks made 17 goal attempts.
The second period was totally dominated by the San Jose Sharks right from the start to the finish. The Sharks defence was excellent and for most of the time didn’t allow the Canucks any shot. Though there were the occasional slip-ups but the goal keeper
was able to make a recovery.
It took San Jose Sharks 14 minutes to score and level the scores. The goal was scored by Logan Couture from a decent strike. San Jose Sharks absolutely dominated the game in the second period firing shots till the very end but unfortunately couldn’t score.
The period ended with the scores level on 1-1 with Canucks making 9 goal attempts and San Jose Sharks making 25 goal attempts.
The final period was more of a defensive battle which saw both teams not creating many chances but concentrating on defence. Though there were several chances for both teams and it looked as if a goal was on the way, but either the defence or the goalkeeper
was able to cover up a mistake.
No goals were scored during the final 20 minutes of the match as the match went into overtime with the scores level on 1-1. During the final period, Canucks made 8 goal attempts while Sharks made 9 goal attempts.
During overtime, no goals were scored and so the match went into shootout where Joe Pavelski’s goal proved to be the difference as Sharks won the match 2-1.
