Vancouver Canucks’ forward, Mason Raymond, taken out of Game 6, status unclear –NHL Updates
Mason Raymond, Vancouver Canucks’ forward, was taken out of Game 6 of the 2011 National Hockey League Stanley Cup Finals’ series against Boston Bruins on Monday, June 13th, at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts, and taken to the hospital for
what looked like an injury but his status still remains unclear.
It was 20 seconds into the first period that Mason Raymond fell to the ice after taking a rear ended hit from Boston’s player, Johnny Boychuk, that seemed harmless at first but when he did not get up for several minutes, it seemed that something was wrong.
The moment was certainly a scary one as Canucks helped their teammate off the ice as he could be seen unable to move and bent down at the waist with Boychuk’s stick between his legs.
Raymond, a 25-year-old native of Cochrane, Alberta, Canada, has been a monumental force for Vancouver Canucks throughout the regular season but has had trouble in the playoffs recently.
The left winger has been able to contribute only eight points so far which include two goals and six assists for a -1 rating, overall in the postseason.
"It's tough. He's a key part of the team. He brings a lot of speed to that line", Daniel Sedin said. "He's dangerous every shift he's out there. ... I don't know how bad it is with him but if he can't play we've had guys step in all year".
The young attacker’s status has still not been confirmed. He has been under evaluation by the hospital’s staff after being taken there. If he is unable to return, it will be a blow to Canucks’ line-up which is already suffering with losses of many key players.
Defensemen, Dan Hamhuis and Aaron Rome, are already out of the scene thus adding a third one to the list.
Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals’ series is expected to begin on Wednesday, June 15th, in Vancouver at the Rogers Arena and before the game, Canucks will have to arrange for another player to fill in the gap if Raymond is unable to return.
