Vancouver Canucks get fifth straight over Columbus Blue Jackets 4-1 -NHL Update
The Vancouver Canucks are off to their longest winning streak ever since the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season kicked off by getting their fifth straight over the Columbus Blue Jackets, 4-1, on Tuesday night, November 29, 2011, at the
sold out Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
Vancouver goalie, Cory Schneider, who continues to fill in the position for Roberto Luongo, had another spectacular performance by facing 48 shots this time around and only allowing one to go through him.
"You almost don't even think about it. It just kind of happens and you are seeing the puck well and you are moving and you are almost anticipating," Schneider said. "There are times as a goalie where nothing makes sense and you are kind of questioning yourself,
and there are times when everything makes sense and you just seem to know the answer ahead of time."
Since Roberto Luongo had problems during the season, Vancouver’s head coach, Alain Vigneault, decided to play it safe and keep him out for a while until he gets back in form and using a ready Cory Schneider instead.
Daniel Sedin scored his seventh to kick off the scoring in the opening period to put Vancouver ahead in the opening minutes while David Booth extended the lead with less than three minutes to go.
After a scoreless second period, Samuel Pahlsson finally put the Blue Jackets on the scoreboard while being shorthanded as Nikita Nikitin was out with a minor penalty for holding.
Just when it was time for Columbus to catch up, Ryan Kesler widened the gap nearly a minute later while Alex Burrows made the insurance shot at the 19:17 mark of the third period.
In his fourth straight start, Schneider is certainly having a better experience playing more than he expected.
"I haven't played this many games (consecutively) at the NHL level," said Schneider. "It's been a little while, but once you get into that rhythm, it's something you don't really forget."
Vancouver have three more at home which gives them the chance to easily extend their winning streak, the next being against the Nashville Predators on Thursday while Columbus will be heading out to Calgary to face the Flames the same day.
