Vancouver Canucks goaltender Cory Schneider consults college days mantra to boost form-NHL News
The rising National Hockey League (NHL) star, Cory Schneider, has admitted referring to his college days’ mantra to keep his level of confidence higher, which remains the key to his remarkable success in front of Vancouver Canucks’ net.
His college days tip, "don't fear failure. Compete 100%. Enjoy the process. Play for others", which was written on his blocker, has helped him gain confidence and form on a majority of occasions.
Even though the player has moved out of the college league quite earlier, the writing is still on the wall, very much stitched there. Schneider admitted he reminds himself of the tip sometimes even now.
He said:
"Sometimes, yeah, it can help. I have a lot of things I do to help keep myself in the moment, and that's one of them."
For the level of confidence and form the goaltender has shown in front of the team’s net, he has been given the starting role ahead of their regular/number one goaltender, Roberto Luongo, who has remained the most successful player of the team.
One example of Schneider’s performance was Canucks’ game 4, which the player with 12 saves out 13 shots helped them win.
The notable point of his performance in the game was his confidence. He refused to be bogged down by intense pressure and pace, which the game was played in.
He said:
"Pressure is a little bit self-manifesting, it's what you make of it. If you let opinions and other people get to you and get in your head, then it's going to create pressure. But if you just go out there and enjoy the moment and play for your teammates
and yourself and family and friends, it becomes fun."
Schneider’s performance has shown that he is true to his words. He is indeed having fun in front of net. His record includes 62 stops out of 64 shots, one goal against each in last two games and with .969 save percentage.
Most importantly, his confidence and effectiveness in front of net is increasing with every game, and it remains crucial to the team’s win chances.
