Vancouver Canucks hopes to repeat history against Boston Bruins in Stanley Cup Finals –NHL Update
So far, this series has had its fair share of controversy and ups and downs. Now all Vancouver Canucks is hoping for is that its past experiences during the 2011 National Hockey League (NHL) Playoffs come into play and help them win this series against Boston
Bruins.
It was after the regulation season that Vancouver was the top prospect to win the Stanley Cup this time around for its performance during the 82-game season.
Winning the Presidents’ Trophy along with the Art Ross Trophy for the top player, Canucks was entering the postseason in the best possible manner.
The Western Conference quarterfinals provided everyone with a surprise when Canucks was nearly eliminated by Chicago, a team who barely made it to the playoffs.
Chicago Blackhawks won three straight games after being down 3-0, after the third game in the series, but due to Roberto Luongo’s quick thinking, Vancouver was able to win in Game 7 in overtime.
"The same situation applies here, tomorrow night we got to come out strong, firing and realize the last two games were bit of a bump in the road for us, but the opportunity is still there for us", Luongo said while remaining confident. "Nothing's changed
from two games ago".
Canucks gradually improved and eliminated Nashville Predators during the Conference semifinals in six games and continued to oust Sharks in five games, but again, San Jose had some mysterious problems of its own because of which it never penetrated through
the Western Conference Finals.
There is no question about the determination both teams are filled with to make it big in this series since they have a lot at stake.
Boston has not won the Stanley Cup since 1972 and this is its first chance at it in over 21 years.
Vancouver is in the same situation but the only difference is that it has never won the cup at all and in addition, it has never played so well in any regular season before the 2010-2011 one.
"That's part of the adversity that any team that has playoff success is going to go through”, Canucks’ coach, Alain Vigneault, said. "Boston's faced their share of adversity, we've faced ours, and both teams are going to try and hit it head-on tomorrow night”.
It is not clear how both teams will perform when the series returns to Vancouver on Friday but it will be very interesting to find out as Game 5 begins at 8:00 PM at the Rogers Arena.
