Vancouver Canucks host the Calgary Flames to catch up the Flyers
One of the important games of Saturday is the Vancouver Canucks playing host to the Calgary Flames. This will be the third of the six meetings due to take place between the two sides. Vancouver Canucks have won both previous meetings in the season with a
7-2 win in the first match and 3-1 in the second one.
Vancouver Canucks were going through some of the best times in their history scoring at least a point in the 17 consecutive games which took them to the top of the table. But after a 1-0 loss against the New York Rangers which snapped the streak, things
haven’t gone that well. Recently, Vancouver Canucks are going through a slump and haven't recorded a win the last 5 games in regulation time.
Currently, the Vancouver Canucks are at the top of the Western Conference leading the Detroit Red Wings by two points. In the run for the President’s Trophy, the Canucks are trailing the Philadelphia Flyers by just a point.
The Vancouver Canucks are facing defence problems as they are allowing too many goals recently which has cost them a lot of matches. The game against the San Jose Sharks shows the weak backline which allowed the Sharks to make 46 goal attempts during the
course of the match. Out of these, 25 goal attempts were made during the course of the first period. The match heated up with the scores level on 1-1 at the end of regulation time. The Canucks were able to grab a point after the Sharks emerged as 2-1 winners
of the match.
Vancouver Canucks have played 47 games so far out of which they have won 29 win in regulation time, 8 in overtime and scored 66 points. On the other hand, Calgary Flames have played 48 games out of which they have won 21 games in regulation time, 6 games
in overtime and have scored 48 points.
Calgary Flames will be very confident ahead of the match as they came up with a brilliant performance against the Dallas Stars thrashing them 7-4. Not only was the offence in action but the defence was superb at the back as well as front with David Moss
rising up to the stage and scoring a couple of goals and great work in defence. After the first period turned out to be a very close, Flames managed to change their strategy and take a 5-3 lead at the end of the second period. The final period saw them scoring
twice to wrap up the match with Captain Jarome Iginla also scoring.
"Jarome's goal was a big goal," coach Brent Sutter said. "That's the way we want to play as far as being hard on the forecheck, We made a play from behind the net, and Jarome was able to tuck it to the far side."
Captain Jarome Iginla is definitely a player who will be looked upon ahead of the match scoring points for his goals and assists and he is a player who can, for sure, make a difference. Calgary Flames strong recent performance coupled with the Vancouver
Canucks poor current runs lines up a very exciting and entertaining game in prospect.
