Vancouver Canucks move closer to semis with 3-2 win over Chicago Blackhawks – NHL playoffs
Vancouver Canucks overcame the defending champions Chicago Blackhawks 3-2 at the United Centre to take a 3-0 lead in the series.
With the win, the Canucks have come close to knocking the Blackhawks out of the Western Conference for the first time in three years.
The Hawks used the home advantage to the maximum at the start of the game which saw them firing shots on goal every now and then. The level of game that was on displayed saw the Hawks being rewarded for it with a goal. Though the Canucks made quite a few
shots on goal but they could not score. The second period saw both teams pretty much even but the Canucks scored two goals in the same minute to get into the lead. The Hawks did not take too long as they scored an equaliser soon after. Both teams were even
again in the final period and it was the Canucks who scored the lone goal of the period to win 3-2 in the end. Henrik Sedin of the Canucks was named the star of the game as he ended his night with two assists.
The Hawks were the forerunners as the game started and they came across a power-play early on. The Hawks determination paid off as they scored in the seventh minute through a powerful Duncan Keith strike.
The Canucks got better with the passage of time and there were several shots on goal from both the teams. However, they were unable to score and the period ended with the Hawks leading 1-0. During the period, the Hawks made 16 shots on goal while the Canucks
made 10.
The second period started off with both teams playing cautiously. They did not involve themselves in unnecessary attacks and waited for the right moment. The Canucks came across a power-play in the middle part of the period that resulted in them levelling
the score.
The goal was scored by Christian Ehrhoff from a powerful strike. The Canucks kept on attacking and scored in the very next play through Daniel Sedin to get into the lead. The Hawks started to pile up some shots and they were awarded a power-play as well.
Resultantly, Patrick Sharp scored from a powerful stroke to level the scores 2-2 with both teams making 9 shots on goal during the period.
The final 20 minutes of play did not see much expect the goal scored by the Canucks in the seventh minute through Mikael Samuelsson from a superb backhand shot.
Both teams made 7 shots on goal but there were no further goals and the game ended with the Canucks winning 3-2 and taking a 3-0 advantage in the series.
