Vancouver Canucks’ problems during power-plays (Part 1)
Vancouver Canucks had started to develop their reputation as being one of the dangerous teams when it came to power-plays.
However, they also have a reputation of not being able to perform at crucial points and this is what happened in the third game.
Canucks not only wasted its power-plays, but there were two occasions when they were up 5-on-3 against the opposing defence during power-plays, yet it couldn’t manage to score a goal.
This made it more difficult for Canucks to come up with the level of performance that would keep them in touch with Sharks. It is undoubtedly very difficult for a team to win when they miss opportunities like the Canucks missed.
Though Canucks was able to score the final two goals of the game during power-plays, its missed opportunities cost them dearly as they fell short by a goal in the end.
Canucks was already in great trouble with the scores on 3-0 at the start of the final period.
Canucks scored three goals in the final period, but Dan Boyle’s goal in the period gave Sharks a 4-1 lead and proved to be the decisive goal of the game.
Canucks later scored in the period to cut the lead to a single goal with just under four minutes left to play. However, Canucks couldn’t manage to score any further goals and the game ended with Sharks winning by 4-3 in the end.
Canucks lost in the defining moments of the game, the power-plays, which in turn resulted in the team losing the game.
"That was our chance to come back in the game, I thought", Daniel Sedin said with regard to the failed 5-on-3s. "They blocked a lot shots. I thought we played it pretty good, but they blocked a lot of shots so we need to maybe hold on to the puck even more
and move it around, but we got the shots we wanted. They just didn't make it to the net".
Canucks was a team that was killing penalty minutes in the postseason when it came for the opposition and emerged as one of the dangerous teams when they came across one.
There were several chances for them to get into the lead. However, it was delightful to see that the team was able to regroup after a disappointing first 15 minutes of the game.
They were totally dominated and were outshot by Sharks, 15-1.
However, after a time-out, the team was able to get back and came up with quite a few shots on goal, but no goals were scored.
